Weekly History and Geography - 27

Research and Writing Skills - Compare Primary Sources

As you learned in Chapter 10, primary sources are "snapshots" of history.  They are created by people who were there at the time of the event.  On p. 472-473 in your Social Studies textbook, you will need to read the What, Why, and How about two primary sources; the English Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution.  Then, answer the "Think and Apply" questions 1-3 on p. 473 on the blog.

  2. Question 1- In English Bill of Rights you would see the word doth, but we would say it as the word does.

    Question 2- I think the English??????? : )

Question 3- I learned that the English wanted to limit power. I also learned that you can compare and contrast how ideas were alike and different. The last thing that I learned was that a philosophical movement called the Enlightenment began in Europe

  3. 1.

some common key ideas in both is that they both yearn for tranquility and peace for their countries.

    2.

The constitution of the united states was addressed to the goverment of England. The bill of rights was intended to limit the power of the monarch (monarchs)in power.

    3.

Both of these countries desired to have limits to their reigning goverment as the U.S. wanted independence from England and the Bill of Rights gave limits to the monarch.

  4. 1) Common words include: tranquility, unity and Union, provide for the common defense and safety. Same type of ideas include: they want to make their place better for all people, they to be unified, they want to make everyone safer, and they want peace (or tranquility).

    2) They are addressed to whoever runs the country and makes the important changes that will effect everyone. (Kind of like the president.) They are trying to get someone to give them more rights and to make their country.

    3) I learned what is in the English Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution and also how they are alike. They both are asking for a lot of the same things. I learned that these are what our laws come from.
