one of the following discussion questions to respond to from Ji-Li Jiang's memoir "Red Scarf Girl." Please answer in complete sentences in paragraph form - remember, a paragraph has 5-7 sentences!
- Consider that "Ji-li" means "lucky and beautiful" in Chinese. Do you think Ji-li was lucky?
- Do Ji-li's feelings and opinions about the Community Party and Chairman Mao Ze-dong change over the course of the story? How?
- Why did some of her fellow students so quickly embrace the idea of criticizing their teachers?
- Why did the critical statements (da-zi-bao) upset Ji-li so much?

- How would you feel if someone wanted to search your home?
Question 6. I would not like it if someone came to search my home. That's where I live, not them. It's my personal space and the government shouldn't get to search your house for no reason. I would get mad if people came to search my house. They would most likely made a mess of all of my stuff!! If it's not their stuff they should leave it alone!
ReplyDeleteSome of Ji-Li's classmates criticized their teachers so quickly because they dislike school. They probaly don't like the teachers because they make them do homework. They also may not like school because they would rather be playing with their friends. They also probaly don't like learning. They also are doing because of the cultaral revolution.

6. I would feel uncomfortable. I would feel uncomfortable because they would be going through all of my stuff. But to a point I wouldn't really care because I wouldn't hide anything that your not supposed to or something that is illegal. So I would do the best to keep them from coming into my house. Because I wouldn't want them to.

With them going though all my stuff and breaking all of it. make me feel really bad about my self. and it would just make me feel really scared inside. So it would just make me feel really wired being around my friends. becuase if they found it out it would be really embarrsing
ReplyDelete3. becuz they dont like teachers and stuff. and becuz they wanted to be part of the revolution. and to be part they have to be mean to the teachers cuz thats the way it is so ya take that.

1. If my name was Lucky and beautiful,(of course I'm not a girl but, anyway)I would not consider myself lucky in that situation. I would consider myself extremely unlucky in that situation because of how I had a black party background. I would never had had any choice in if I had that background. Another unlucky thing is that I would have had those uncompletely burned pictures. The red guards found those and came and searched Ji-Li's house because of them. That is the reason why I would consider myself unlucky.
ReplyDeleteQuestion 6. I would feel invaded. I would ask why are you searching my home. I would lock my door and not let them in. I would get mad. I would get fusterated that they can mess with my stuff!!

ReplyDeleteI would hate to have someone wanting to search my home for several reason. Firstly I would feel like someone was invading my personal space. I wouldn't like someone looking through my drawers and my pictures. Secondly I wouldn't like it because people won't let you speak there opinion or you wouldn't be able too defend yourself. When they ask questions about the items you have at your house, you wouldn't be able to speak. Even though there are many other reasons to hate people looking through your stuff, these are my top two.

Question 6. I would feel bad. I wouldn't want them looking through my house. They need to think the other way around, like "what if I was looking through you house and tearing everything up in your house and stuff." So the just needed to think about that! They will NOT like it. So they shouldn't have done it to them. :) Shaankk yaa.

ReplyDeleteI think Ji-Li's classmates were quick to criticize their teachers because they felt like they were in charge for once. For every student there's a time when they feel like they should be the teacher and the teacher should be learning from the students. I think they took advantage of this to get even with their teachers, but Ji-Li couldn't criticize her teachers because she had been good to them so they were good to her. The teachers were put at a point of weakness so the students took advantage. I know I couldn't do that to my teachers and I sure hope my class mates can't either.

ReplyDelete6.) If someone wanted to search my home I would feel like I had no safety. The one place that I would feel like I could be safe no matter what would be invaded. It would remind me of all of the bad things that are happening and that maybe... just maybe... Chairman Mao isn't doing the best for my country. Especially if my most favored items were considered "fourolds" and had to be taken away. It doesn't help that when they come into your house, you or parents can't fight them or do anything to stop them without getting hurt. I think that they shouldn't be able to search homes and take away things like that. Some of the stuff that they take away could be really valuable to that person. It just doesn't seem fair.
ReplyDelete4. I think that the da-zi-bao upset her because they were mean. Also because people actually believed them. one of the main reasons I think they upset her was because there was one about her. If there was not one about her, I dont think she would have realized how embarrassing it really is. And lastly because there was one about almost everyone.

question 4 If someone searched my house i would be mad. I would be mad because it's my stuff. I don't like people to look through my stuff. I would also be mad because they don't have the right to look through my stuff. I live there not them and the government has no right invading my private space.

ReplyDeleteI dont think i would like it at all. it would be scary and not fun at all.and i would freak out and start throwing stuff at the people who were looking in my room. then i would just hide under my bed till they all left.
